Do you want to learn to ride a horse with confidence? Are you interested in expanding your skills and knowledge of horse riding? We can help! At Apex Riding Academy, we can assist you no matter what your current skill levels are. We are passionate about horses and love to train their riders! If you have never been on a horse, but you have always wanted to ride one, we can teach you everything you need to know to ride comfortably, gracefully, and safely. Even if you’ve been riding for years, we can give you tips on how your horse thinks and what you can do to enjoy your horse even more than you already do. We can even teach you a new riding style such as English, Country, or Equitation.
All of our lessons are taught by Apex Riding Academy employees. Whether you have ridden
before or this will be your first time on a horse, we will start you in a private one-on-one lesson
where we will evaluate your ride and teach you the skills necessary to be successful.
When you graduate from these private lessons, you will be invited to join a group or pair lesson.
This is sometimes with the same instructor, or sometimes you may move to another instructor.
Regardless of who you ride within these lessons, you will get a different level of enthusiasm and
excitement while riding with your peers. Our group and pair lessons vary by age and skill
levels- some directed toward those interested in competing on our Academy team with others
geared toward those who are simply riding for fun! Your rider will be placed in a group or pair
that best matches their age and abilities.
Julie Daniel and Kasey Moffat teach all of the Performance Rider lessons during the week, plus a
select few Academy Show Rider groups. To ride in an Academy Show Rider group, you must be
riding multiple times a week and be approved. This is an honor and a privilege.
Our riding program lesson dates are Monday, -Sunday with Sunday being group lessons only. We typically start teaching around 8 am and our last lessons, usually starting at 5 PM.
By calling the office or emailing us, we will find a time that works well with you and us to get your rider scheduled.
There are certain weeks during the year that we will offer make updates, additional ride dates, and some times when lessons have to be canceled due to horse shows and barn events. we will always keep you up to date through our email and social media.
All of our riders start in private lessons following a 30-minute block schedule. This time block
includes getting on and caring for the horse. Once the basic skills and safety are
taught, the rider may be invited to a group or a pair lesson. Pair lessons consist of two riders
and follow a 30-minute time block. Group lessons are 3 or more riders and follow a 40-minute
time block.
While our lessons place much emphasis on riding the horse, the skills learned in taking care of
the horse and equipment are equally important. We ask that riders arrive 10 minutes before
their lesson to ensure their horse is ready and they are ready to start the minute their lesson
does. We also encourage riders to help take care of their horse following their lesson if possible.
We like to tell new families to plan on spending an hour at the barn to allow for this. We know
everyone has different schedules and it is not required. If your rider is interested in staying and
helping, please talk to their instructor to learn the age requirements to do so.
